Malicious Affliction and counter spells

Hello,

Let's say a creature died this turn and I cast Affliction malveillante (so with Morbid effect) and my opponent decides to counter it. Morbid effect applies when spell is cast, so the copy is created even if the spell is countered. How does it work exactly ? Can we play the copy even if spell is countered ?

You don't really play the copy (it's merely put on top of the stack by the triggered ability), but it'll be put on top of the stack and resolve nonetheless (and you'll destroy a nonblack creature).

When you cast your spell, its morbid ability will trigger and enter the stack above your spell (before anyone has a chance to do anything to your spell). Your opponent can then choose to counter your spell before or after that trigger resolves.
If he does it before, the triggered ability will use the last known informations (LKI) to copy that spell and you'll get a copy anyway. Otherwise, you'll get the copy, then your opponent will choose whether he counters the original spell or the copy.
Usually, your opponent should choose the latter as you'll be forced to choose both targets before he counters (you choose the target for the copy during the resolution of the morbid ability), so either :
- you target the same creature twice (in which case, he won't bother countering)
- you target two different creatures (in which case, he'll choose who survives)
